One thing I miss about Victoria is trying to get as far as possible out the breakwater during the big storms. Once the waves started to break over the top we would drop down to the inner side and run back to go dry out in front of a fire.

This was a very intense storm, RE, one of the most intense I have seen in my 45 years of living on the coast. A foot of rain in 24 hours is a very rare event.

You and the media are probably both right. A storm this intense used to be a 200-year event, but now that global warming has disturbed the equilibria there will be more extreme events. So maybe this type of storm will prove to be a 20-year event going forward.
