No Reader's Digest article there, but it probably could have been. "Mister" was great with neighborhood kids. We had a harness for him and he'd pull the kids up and down our street on a sled in the snow. He was always ready to play ball. I'd put him on "stay" in the outfield and the kids would bat as I pitched. He'd be all over that entire outfield to retrieve a tennis ball we played with. Once I planted some new lawn and put a kite string around some foot long stakes surrounding the lawn. I walked him along that string, telling him "NO!" and he never crossed into that new lawn until I took the string down. I actually got another Shepherd after Mister, and trained him as well, but he couldn't fill the gap and I never tried another.
