crepe myrtle can survive only in warm weather, it was a tree of
society status in the early american era. Colonial plantations in williamburg have this tree planted in the inner court to shield it from winter wind. I have seen this 4-5 feet tall tree planted in NY state in huge planters and rolled into the orangerie ( green house) in the winter
