Not really looking forward to that, especially if the Democrats win the presidency. There are some crowing about the Republicans becoming a regional party, and that is dangerous if true. Now the Republicans have only themselves to blame, becoming Bush's doormat while putting together a looting machine with DeLay at the helm was the most transcendentally stupid thing in modern politics, but still.

Its not just Bush's stupid antics that may force the GOP into regional party status. Its their positioning on the political spectrum. While the country may not be as left as some members of the Democratic party, it is not as far right as the GOP has positioned itself. I think that endanger's the party much more than Bush's bad behavior. It would appear the extremists have hijacked the party.

Single party rule is a siren's call to corruption, as we have seen. To make it worse, it usually means the politicians totally ignore the electorate while they ride their individual hobby horses.

Agreed. That's where we need a third party.
