I guess I was responding to the implications in

"...the degradation of morals"..."People who have insufficient ethical backbone find it easy to fail."

My point was that failure is not necessarily consequent to an insufficiency of morals. There are a lot of very ethical people who have misfortune, and many unethical people who enjoy financial success.

I think it is possibly a human conceit to hope that morality is appropriately rewarded, when in fact injustice has a somewhat random character.
