Pat, thanks for your prompt and insightful reply. So if I understand what you're saying, the analysts estimate contains an inherent margin of safety; the whisper number is the street's attempt to quantify the margin of safety in the eps; and the stock price leading up to the earnings announcement reflects the market's take on whether or not the streets quantification (whisper number) is high/low and ultimately, after the earnings announcement, the stock price moves based on the actual numbers. Did that make sense?
