Literally every drug produces side effects in some people. The FDA approval process requires fairly large sample sizes of people and animal experiments to determine what those side effects may be, how serious they are, and how often they occur in people and animals.....the experiments are always "controlled". Testimonials or anecdotes are not acceptable in the process. I know of some drugs which cause side effects in 30% of the users but they are not serious enough to warrant banning of the drug, ie the SE's are mild. Also we all know of people, whom upon learning of side effects, will immediately get them. Many get them on rumor even if the rumor isn't true. My sister-in-law insisted that Prilosec caused her hair to fall out, a side effect never observed in the studies of the drug. But a Google search located a forum where someone mentioned hair falling out as a side effect even though there was no mention of it in the scientific literature. Needless to say, my in-law was not convinced and stopped taking the drug... There are thousands of stories like these including yours....

All the historical discoveries you cite were not based on accidental or serendipitous occurrences even though they might have been first observed that way. Archimedes studies were very scientific even if they were empirical.....I would submit that most science and engineering developments are base on empirical experiments (always controlled). And also most drugs are developed empirically.

But until someone can show conclusively that your suspicions have scientific(including empirical) data to support them, they will be nothing but unvalidated suspicions and it doesn't matter whether your Aunt Tilly claims to have gotten sick from the flu shot. The government and medical community strongly advise you to get the flu vaccine. Check your history books and see what caused the greatest health disaster in history... It's estimated that about 30,000 die in this country every year from the flu.....the greatest number are seniors.
