This is Johnson's first NASCAR championship title. He has contended for the championship in every one of his five seasons at the Cup level, finishing in the top five in points every year.
Throughout the 2006 season, racing fans have tuned in for Johnson's personal account of his extraordinary run on the XM Radio show "Jimmie Johnson ... Not What You Expected." Johnson and his co-host Marty Smith launched the show on February 16, three days before Johnson opened the season by winning the Daytona 500.
Jimmie will talk about winning the title on his show this Thursday, November 23, at 7:00 pm ET on XM's NASCAR Radio (XM Channel 144) and 10:00 pm ET on XM Sports Nation (XM Channel 143). Johnson's show will return for a second season on XM in February 2007.
"We want to congratulate Jimmie on a phenomenal season, capped by winning the Cup today in Miami," said Eric Logan, executive vice president, programming, XM Satellite Radio. "His talent and determination make him a champion in the truest sense of the word. We're extremely proud that Jimmie is part of the XM family, and we're all looking forward to the next season of his radio show in 2007."
