I read it, thank you... yes, eloquent, but, after all, it was not an impromptu speech... the content itself is a distorted view of U.S. policy at the time... of course, anyone in a combat zone has some sensitivity to the locals whose lives are torn apart without even understanding why a war is raging all around them... but, U.S. policy, nor the policy of any country, should cater to the ignorant... yes, the people in the villages were ignorant, and this is not meant as a disparagement here, but we must take steps against any country that appears to pose a threat to our own security, right or wrong, because worse can happen by taking no action at all, we were trying to prevent the spread of communism (communism was an experiment that lasted 40 years before it finally failed)... his speech was saturated with north vietnamese communist talking points and was intended to cave in to the enemy, after you boil down all he says, this was his message, plain and simple... he has not changed one bit in all these years and, much like a broken record, he's still playing those same old tapes today... I have even less regard for a character like that after having read his speech... remember that ted bundy was also charming, he was also eloquent, he was educated, he was compelling, each victim believed him and took him (a total stranger) into their apartments so he can murder them and butcher them and spread their body parts throughout the different rooms of the apartment... I point this out only to dramatize the point that talk is cheap, very cheap... you have to see beyond the warm and fuzzy words to see the real underlying message... salesmen are very familiar with this style of delivery, it works but it doesn't mean it's honest...
Thank you again for providing that transcript, I think everyone should read it and decide for themselves...
