I agree on the sweetness thing, but dislike the petrol or kerosene note with the sage so I pass on many rieslings. Maybe a Washington one.

Used to like Gewurtz and served it as the white wine until I started serving Champagne or a CA sparkling wine like Etoile Rose from Chandon. Beware, Etoile has a bottle cap now like beer, no cork. Sigh.

Sauvignon Blanc is one of my favorite wines but I'd never want it with Thanksgiving dinner unless I was doing a simple oyster stuffing and serving a french one. I think SB is getting recommended these days because of its increasing popularity. Most of the new world SB's are looking for that jalapeno or "cat pee on a gooseberry bush" note like Cloudy Bay and that is a particularly nasty combo with Turkey.

I'm having Thanksgiving with friends at the Ritz Carlton in Naples. Artisans in the Dining Room. They have specific wine flights for the day. I'm interested to see what they pick.
