The headline may be a little over the top, but the research has got to ring true to most honest pot smokers, I'd say. As other replies recall, alcohol often enough causes a total memory blackout. Such alcohol blackouts are, I think, most often NOT recovered later when sobered up, which is certainly a different AND more severe near term lasting effect.

I'd bet it's also provable that the mid sentence forgetfulness anecdotally noted is often literally overcome by sheer force of will - sometimes with a pause thrown in - when what one is saying is perceived by the speaker as highly important.

It also seems to me that we all observe aging memories of non pot smokers exhibiting the same symptoms.
