"Of course I can define it"
Excellent!
Like to hear how YOU define 'liberal' and 'conservative' then....
(So I'll be able to know *what the heck you mean* when you use those words.)
Me? I'm a 'fiscal conservative' --- so I favor small government, balanced budgets, low and 'fair' taxes....
And I'm a 'Libertarian' --- so I favor a small government that keeps it's nose out of everyone's private business, and doesn't try to intrude in private lives, or act as a 'Big Nanny' or a 'Big Daddy' government.
And, (Libertarian being the opposite of Authoritarian), I'm not fond of Kings or Dictators, or any who would seek excess power over others, so I respect Democracy as the most freedom-loving system of government yet devised.
And, I believe in the superiority of Capitalism, in a modern mixed economy... so I'm a fan of free markets. (Which, by the way, is what's called a 'Liberal' in Europe... someone who *favors* Capitalist, not Socialist, economic solutions.)
One thing I'm not is a 'religious conservative', which, in it's present day configuration (though it wasn't always thus), seems to be a philosophy that *requires* the power of an expanded federal government, as a 'big stick', to ensure that it's preferred dictates regarding behaviors are *enforced* on the general population.... (Though, I'll will ever DEFEND the rights of individuals to be free to worship as they wish, be they 'religious conservatives' or 'religious liberals', regardless... I will ever oppose any goal to impose one sect's particular views upon a broader public.) |
