Wrong and wrong....sorry I don't have a link to the Business Week article on the minimum wage, but they presented plenty of studies showing it is not just young people in their first jobs...it is a sizable portion of the working poor and second earners.....Business Week (hardly a liberal publication) supports the increase.

As for union conracts...your argument is just not true, and has not been true since the 1980s. Union conracts in almost all crafts are so far above minimum wage that the use of it as a benchmark stopped long, long ago. A UPS driver makes 20 bucks an hour....and his contract states his hourly wage with no COLA kickers or any other index adjustments. Same in manufacturing (autos, steel) transport (airlines, freight) or virtually any other.
