Some believe that preventing conception is also murdering a potential life...That's at least what my Catholic upbringing said.

The Catholic church does not, and to my knowledge never has taught that preventing conception is murder.

They do teach that its immoral, which is still a reason for many people to leave the church, or disagree with it.
