Dell XPS Problems with MS Office

Dell XPS 266 has problems when installing Microsoft Products. The problem appears at the end of the setup installation procedure when the software attempts to register with Windows 95. It pops of with the "Error 168" indicating that it has problem with updating the registry. I made a search through various user groups about this problem and it looks like that it is specific to DELL XPS 233 & 266 products. No body including Dell Tech support has any idea of the reasons. Probably it is too early with the use of these products. The problem is bound to repeat if other Dell products have the same internals (Mother Board, BIOS, etc.)

This seems incredible considering the high profile of Dell on Wall Street. Obviously, if Dell does not address this problem it is bound to impact negatively on their sales and bottom line. Who wants to buy a machine that can not run Microsoft Programs properly at least like a garden-variety clone! I am neither long nor short with Dell. But considering the above problems and the current high price there may be some money to be made on the down side.
