Securities
Blakes has one of the largest securities practice groups in Canada. Lawyers in this Group act for issuers and underwriters in public offerings and for bidders, target companies, independent directors and financial advisers in take-over bids. They also deal with many less visible matters, such as private placements, dealer registrations, stock exchange listings, timely disclosure and insider trading issues, valuations and fairness opinions. They have excellent working relationships with the provincial securities commissions and stock exchanges.
Blakes securities lawyers, working closely with the Taxation Group, have helped create many of the successful securitized and derivative products that have been brought to market in recent years. They have been at the forefront of international developments. From the first eurobond deals in the 1960s, through the early swaps at the turn of the 1980s and the subsequent U.K. privatizations, Blakes has been deeply involved with international offerings into Canada or involving Canadian companies. Canada/U.S. cross-border offerings have also long been an important part of our practice.

To end uncertainty over what properties are owned by the public company, many shareholders are demanding to see audited financial statements and other records, said Ronan Levy, a Toronto corporate lawyer and Sulja stock owner.
Levy is circulating a petition to force the company to disclose financial statements and other records that would reveal the assets of the company and how well the company is doing financially.
