I blame the "insurgents" for killing each other, but I don't blame them for starting the war, or creating this mess. If you have a rabid dog, and I think we can analogize rabies to the kind of madness in men that ethnic conflict creates, then when someone let's the rabid dog out of an enclosure I don't think we're going to blame the dog for getting out (though we'll shoot him for biting)- that's a given- you blame the person who let the dog out, and who knew or should have known the damage it would do.
So there are different levels of blame here. I blame the US for creating the mess which allows civil war to be possible in Iraq. I blame murderers for murdering, and civil warriors for warring, but they would not be doing it but for the US- we are, unfortunately, the prime cause. It's unfortunate, but I don't see how you can argue that we, the US, are not the prime cause. Do you have some argument that we are not? Love to hear it.
We were talking about blaming "the Iraqi people" anyway, which is a bit different from the insurgency. Unless you want to claim the whole country is the insurgency. So you really went off the wall in interpreting my comments, but that's typical on SI. |
