You are simply wildly incorrect. You can't compare civil war to the organized warfare between Iraq and Iran. They are very different structurally, and politically. How odd you would even try to conflate the two things. And the sanctions? What, exactly, does that have to do with an active "insurgency"? Are you confusing a state actor, and it's actions, with insurgency? That's one of the problems with the Bush admin- they confuse those things too. Unfortunately confusion like that leads to terrible results. Saddam's killing of Iraqis? Frequently brought up. If you spread his killing out over the number of years of his government you will find many more Iraqis are dying now, and if you include the 1000's leaving the country every day....well, no comparison at all.

There are some very good books on Iraq, but I have a feeling you haven't even read Fiasco. Why don't you start with that?
