This may sound callous, but any chance the area could be developed as a tourist area ?

This is actually happening in some areas, but the government is doing it in a very callous manner. In one situation I know very well, the government has evicted the minority people and is rebuilding a disney version of a minority village, they are then using ethnic vietnamese to play minority tribal people. It boggles the mind.

But, yes, the government has figured out they can exploit the minority culture as a tourist attraction.

There are some areas I've seen that are doing a better job of it.
