Ken, I had the best dog in the world from 1972 until 1988 when we had to put her down. She went everywhere with me and was never kenneled until late in her life. Big mistake.

My advice would be, get your dog used to being at the kennel so it's no a stressful situation for them when you have to go away. You can take a guilt-free vacation and the dog will do quite well once used to being in the kennel.
