Mr James McCarney reports Further to news in Stockwatch July 24 1997, Mack Trucks has been quoted in the September 28 1997 issue of Modern Bulk Transporter as follows: Mack Will Offer Customers SmartLink Tool Mack Trucks and IVS Intelligent Vehicle Systems have entered into an agreement to offer Mack customers SmartLink, a new diagnostic and life-cycle vehicle management tool. The system uses computer technology and wireless communications to analyze, in real time, a vehicle's location, performance, and overall operating characteristics. With SmartLink, even intermittent problems are recorded on the system's computer and then transmitted to a remote diagnostic site. The vehicle's operation then can be monitored in real-time, if desired, with data files generated and analyzed as troublesome events occur. This system incorporates the global positioning system to track the vehicle's geographic location worldwide. Data generated by SmartLink is readily exportable into a variety of spreadsheet, database, and fleet data management programs. The company is presently negotiating long term manufacturing and service agreements with industry leaders in the cellular phone and vehicle test equipment manufacturing and communication service industries. The company's initial production program calls for the manufacturing of 5,000 SmartLink systems, of which the first 2,500 systems are scheduled for delivery to Mack Trucks beginning last quarter of 1997. No further disclosures can be made by the company at this time until the manufacturing agreements presently being negotiated are completed.
