You can make a stronger statement. It will increase the acidity. This will cause a shift in ocean chemistry. Now this is extremely important because ocean chemistry is pretty constant and virtually all of the organisms in the oceans are extremely sensitive to water chemistry. Just ask anybody who keeps a salt water aquarium. The tools available to aquarists have improved enormously over the years, but tanks can still develop chemical imbalances that start cascades of changes that kill everything in the tank.
