Press release, November 27; Esther Lam, DigiTimes.com [Monday 27 November 2006]

Although market players generally believed DDR2 contract prices would stay flat in the second half of November, prices are rising instead due to strong PC demand for the upcoming Christmas season, supply issues related to some makers transitioning to 90nm production and growing demand for DDR2 512MB 667MHz DIMMs.

PC OEMs that have increased their DRAM content per box to 1GB and offered aggressive price cuts for notebooks prior to Christmas have successfully encouraged consumption, DRAMeXchange said. The firm said some PC OEMs are concerned that the ratio of 1GB systems will be lower than expected due to the current DRAM shortage, as some DRAM makers are encountering production issues as they transition to 90nm production and customers are seeking additional stocks from other locations.

Projecting DRAM contract pricing for the first half of December, DRAMeXchange says the stronger pricing is likely to persist.
