The media sure is laying it on thick this year regarding the much ballyhooed holiday spendfest. In case you didn't get enough hype on 'black friday' , the evening's lead story for our sappy NBC affiliate -KARE 11- is <gasp>, 'cyber monday!' . With the teaser being, "if you don't know what cyber monday is, tune in at Six and we'll tell you all about it."

I find it interesting to note that neither of these two phrases came from the consumer's lexicon. We're being drilled with corporate speak which somehow became marketable, w/ the notion that as newscasters across the country proceed to ram a message of mindless consumption down our throat, we'll be compelled to spend.

Well, not me. I didn't shop on Friday and I haven't been to an e-tailer today. IMO, this rush-to-buy syndrome is to be forever looked upon with derision, for all that it represents is misguided hedonism.

Bah-humbug you say? perhaps, but for those that remember this episode.. perhaps not:
