Peter, One of the problems is that the Indians that work at places like that, virtually cannot be fired. As a result, the don't care about their jobs, of the visitors.
The Navaho used professional management until they could get enough tribesmen through college and learn how to manage. I have been in several Navaho town, and have been treated very well, and in cordial way.
Free money does not help with a man's self esteem, but many of them have no other options while stuck on the reservations. Most of the tribes that were sent to Oklahoma, are not restricted to the reservations, and have become business people, both men and women, that are just like the white people.
I know that carrying a grudge is not the thing a person should do, regardless of background, but it will take many more decades for the Indians to totally forgive the white men for what they did to them in history. Most, if not all, of the atrocities that Indians did against the white settlers, were reactions to crimes against them by the white's that were not punished for what they did. |
