John et al. - Intel Cooperating with the PC Industry

The FTC launches a probe into Intel concerning anticompetitive tactics, and two days later National Semi. (future owner of Intel Competitor Cyrix) announces products developed in cooperation with Intel.

Good timing!

This should be Exhibit #1 in the FTC documentation.

National Announces Industry's First Low Pin Count Interface Super
I/O Device

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1997--National Semiconductor Corporation(R) today
announced its support of the new Low Pin Count (LPC) interface specification, developed by Intel Corporation, with
the introduction of the first LPC-based Super I/O device.

National will sample the PC87360 before the end of 1997 as the first in its new series of LPC-based Super I/O
devices. Leveraging National's expertise in Super I/O, analog and mixed signal technologies, the new PC87360
integrates multiple functions into a single chip, providing cost and board space savings for the OEM. Device
features include a reduced number of pins, lower cost, lower power, system management and design flexibility.

``We collaborated with Intel to quickly define and develop the PC87360 in accordance with the new LPC interface
specification,'' said Michael Maia, director of National's Personal Systems Group, Americas Division.
``This effort
will result in a reduced pin count Super I/O solution that addresses the concerns of customers who want more
functionality and board space savings.''

The LPC specification allows system and peripheral suppliers to migrate from ISA/X-bus to future ISA-less systems
while retaining full software compatibility. This will allow manufacturers to reduce overall design costs and facilitates
the industry's move toward high performance, next-generation I/O technologies such as USB and 1394.

National Semiconductor Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, produces system on a chip silicon solutions for the
information highway, based on its leadership in analog and mixed signal technologies. National is headquartered in
Santa Clara, and focuses on the communications, personal systems and consumer markets. National has annual
sales of approximately $2.5 billion and 12,700 employees worldwide.
