what i am trying to figure out these days is why intel is doing 45nm as early as this. i don't think in their history they've ever released a new node just one year after the last. the people running intel are certainly not stupid so there must be a good business case. "because they can" or "they want to crush the competition further" are not meaningful reasons. i think they're doing it because they need to which actually makes me feel better about amd's 65nm and k8l given that intel probably knows better than anyone in this forum what amd is doing.
