I thought you might find this guy interesting.

I had the privilege of hearing Irvin Rosenfeld speak today.

Small quote:

November 20, 2002 will mark the twentieth anniversary of my use of medical Cannabis provided by the federal government. This is the longest period of the seven living American medical patients who now receive medical marijuana from the federal government.

I have had a very successful career as an award-winning stockbroker and a rewarding, high quality of life. That life would have been utterly impossible without my use of this medicine. I would have been unable to serve my clients and contribute to my community and the economy. Indeed, I would have been an enormous economic drain, consuming vast quantities of medical resources -- if I were to have survived this many years.

end quote

Rosenfeld was testifying, today, in front of a committee of the House of Representatives for the State of Michigan.

The topic was a bill to amend the controled substance act (of Michigan) to allow for medical marijuana.

He testified immediately following the testimony of a representative of the FDA.

The FDA rep lied. Many times. One of his lies was that "There have been no studies showing that marijuana has any medical benefit."

Rosenfeld got on the stand and asked "Why hasn't the FDA studied me? I've been smoking nine to 15 marijuana cigarettes per day for the last 35 years. I would be dead if I hadn't."

The FDA dude was already out in the hallway with reporters. Wasn't the least bit interested in what Irvin had to say.
