Pomp, clearly the middle east is a breeding ground for political disappointment. The easy thing would be to get out of the way and let them have at it, but absent any hard numbers to the contrary, I would still believe that the average Iraqi wants the same things the rest of us do. They've been screwed, abused and repressed for so long that it's easy to see their reluctance to grab this opportunity by the horns, especially if they question our resolve. Pulling the rug out from under the ones that deserve better, will just be another dirty deed in a long line of the same.

Failure or no, it's also clear that some of us have more tolerance for those who at least tried.
