Yes, exactly. We all know that being fat is bad for you, but we all disagree as to the best methodology to staying skinny.

We all agree that high earth temperatures have a wide range of bad consequences, but we all disagree on what is causing global warming and what to do about it.

I wish we could all at least agree to do something about it now, though. It seems that there are still a bunch of people that think we should do nothing. I think that stems from a failure of leadership. Bush thinks we should do nothing only because the energy and car companies have pressured the hell out of him to do nothing, and at heart he doesn't like to do anything that will harm big oil. As a result, millions of Bush backing Americans have turned off their thinking caps and decided that if Bush says we don't need to do anything, then he must be right.

That is what concerns me most. If we had a different leader, who was willing to do something and could articulate the reasons why that is important (economy, national security, environment), then many more millions of Americans would make that their default position. That is why leadership is so damn important. They influence by default based on their explicit authority.
