SI Bob needs to reword the question:
(from) "How to get better participation in SI Sentiment?" (to) "When does the squeaky wheel get the oil?"
(wrong answer) "A penny for your [si members] thoughts." (correct answer) "Your [si members] thoughts are worth tuppences."
(from your post) "Incentivize users to submit scores?"
Enough babble to now do a Q&A.
Rather than ask what "SI Sentiment" is, or "looks like," answer what "SI Sentiment" is meant "to do."
My responce is that it wants to transform the posts of si members into a vehicle that others can "hop a ride on" to trade the markets.
Nothing new about that answer, but what form does it take?
A "score" attached to a single stock board has been viewed as "not good enough."
Follows is a collection of thoughts posted here: 1. From: Mark Marcellus To: SI Bob You're making it too hard. Make it a separate area of the site, which shows the ratings, lets people see who some of the yeas and nays are, link to it... From: SI Bob To: Mark Marcellus ... the site's biggest need of all is increased market-related posting, and stock-specific boards are relatively easy to target. I thought SIS would be a posting motivator. ... intention has always been to use SIS in press releases ... and will get people interested in checking it out here and adding their own opinions and votes. 3. From: SI Bob Providing portfolios happens to be fairly high on the to-do list... Also, Tom Veale has been working on developing charting tools to go hand-in-hand with the scoring to allow for in-depth and easier analysis of the Sentiment scores.
Make a single workable item that has si members transfering the thoughts that preceded their posts, that most likely have been, or just were, their trading activity.
Maybe... Create boards to mirror existing si boards, be it either a single company or like that "Value Investing" or them oil, energy, etc catagories, and each of these boards that mimic the originals have as agenda into the board descriptor a portfolio and charting visual to describe what has justed happened, and an "SI Sentiment" interactive real-time display that si members can access anytime to add their thoughts, which hopefully results into their posting at that time a reason for what they did on the original board.
I guess then this mimic board is not for posting on, but only for display that si members can "join" to have permission to modify the "SI Sentiment" part, where the portfolio and charting visual are done automatically.
If this works (aka) "SI Sentiment" makes good trading advice based on the fact that using it makes money, then the following will happen:
