Company Press Release

FastComm Confirms Compatability with Yurie ATM
Switch for Access Over T1/E1 Local Loops

STERLING, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1997--

Cell-Based Interface Supports LAN Extension plus Frame Relay Interworking, Compatible with
RFC 1483 in Cisco Routers

FastComm Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:FSCX) today announced the successful completion
of ATM interoperability testing between the LDR2000 ATM Access Concentrator from Yurie
Systems of Landover, Maryland (NASDAQ:YURI) and the FastComm LAN SARgent(TM) ATM
Access Device.

The FastComm LAN SARgent(TM) Ethernet bridge and serial access device transmitted data over
the Yurie LDR2000, to and from a Cisco router via cell-based (true Asynchronous Transfer Mode,
ATM) on T1 (1.5 Mbps) and E1 (2 Mbps) facilities.

``This test is an exciting step toward the reality of affordable ATM services for the large number of
small and medium- size sites across all large enterprises,'' said Peter Madsen, FastComm President.
``We believe the networking and network management benefits of an enterprise-wide deployment
of ATM will appeal to many corporate network and IT managers.''

On the Wide Area Network side, the LAN SARgent(TM) product is available with either an
integral 1.5 Mbps T1 CSU or a 2 Mbps G.703 interface to an E1 circuit. T1 access to public ATM
services has been announced by most carriers and deployed by several already. Its cost is similar to
popular leased lines and frame relay services, far below the cost of 45 Mbps DS-3 and 155 Mbps
OC-3c ATM access.

The FastComm LAN SARgent(TM) access device offers both an Ethernet and a high speed serial
port to attach customer equipment. As with all FastComm products, it is easy to install and
configure. Using the Spanning Tree algorithm to identify permanent virtual circuits defined on the
ATM public service or private network, FastComm LAN SARgent(TM) ATM access device
works with any LAN protocol and without special settings. The product's high speed serial user
port supports any application using the popular HDLC frame formats, such as SNA, X.25 and
Frame Relay. For Frame Relay traffic, the SARgent incorporates the Network- Level Interworking
Function (IWF) as defined by the Frame Relay Forum Implementation Agreement (FRF.5).

Yurie Systems, Inc. designs, manufactures, markets, and services ATM WAN access equipment
for telecommunications service providers and corporate and government end users. Yurie's
LDR200 ATM access concentrator, released in September 1996, won Data Communications' Hot
Product Award for WAN gear in January 1997. Its LDR50 was released in March 1997. The
Company completed its initial public offering in February, and in May Business Week magazine
named Yurie Systems ``America's No. 1 Hot Growth Company''. For more information on Yurie
