<<Continued Afghan success at ousting invaders assumes, given today's weapons, a civilized approach to dealing with the Afghans>>

... not true, by my read, thinking of the Russian adventure not so long ago, when I am sure the Russians were not doing a 'civilized' approach. Fact remains, the Russian were humbled.

<<The greater the Taliban resurgence to come, and the fewer the U.S. troops in country when it comes, the greater the clustering of high-value targets and the easier a solution to Taliban resurgence will be>>

... again not true. I only need to look at the video of the places in Afghanistan to realize there cannot be high-value targets, now, and for a long time.

The guys who took down the WTC were mostly Saudis, and going forward, as USA perpetrate <<own atrocities>> on a greater still scale, the guys who take down dams, highway bridges, hospitals etc in usa will be US citizens. I look to the British experience in N.Ireland.

<<outlook makes an even stronger case for gold.>>

... on this we agree, 100%.

On the Afganistan / Iraq thing, I have no recommendation, because getting out is not the right answer, and staying in is a bad idea.
