Gottfried, if you look at most successful companies, they have one common thread, a good public image which says they are the BEST at they what they do. Some people call it brand name. As we all know, images sell. People do not like to buy stuff from second rated companies.

In recent years, IBM gradually lost that image as I noted as previous posts. The Cu "breakthrough" is just one desperate attempt to restore such image. Do you remember TI's 0.18 micron "miracle"? It caused a great deal of anxiety in the semi industry at that time. But look back from now, it is none issure.
