Freedom means a lot of things, many of them are not positive. There is a lot of equality in the ME, but not a lot of freedom. There is a lot of freedom in America, but not alot of equality.
Personally, I would be with you on the point about not hanging out with the pro war crowd, had I served in Iraq.
Now as for the Muslims, they are free to quash all civil rights to enforce an Islamic equality. It's called religious totalitarianism. They have no respect for Christians, Jews, or other Muslims for that matter. They are fundamentalists with no tolerance of the rest of the world.
What is the rest of the world supposed to do? We are free to do whatever we please. We can help support the new government in Iraq, as per the current course of policy in Iraq. We can withdraw our troops and turn over the security policy to the Iraqis. We can do whatever the hell we please.
There were 80,000 Americans that volunteered to join the armed forces last year. They have every right to support the war in Iraq. I find it comical that so many Americans do not support the war, while our soldiers support the mission. From the soldiers I have talked to, they seem to be extremely proud of the mission in Iraq.
It really boils down to what you want to let the terrorists control in the ME. However, we are not going to change the intolerant fundamentalism of Islam. They are always going to demand full control of their serfdoms so they can treat their people like property. We need to let them fight it out amongst themselves at some point. Personally, I think our mission is about done in Iraq. Let the Shiite militias wipe out the Sunni resistance once we clear out. |
