Wow, I guess we are not that far off in our thinking after all. I just figured by the way you were bashing the idea of passing around gold lumps that you were an advocate of the status quo, fiat money system. But from what I gather, you are saying we are pretty much screwed no matter what. You might be right...

My thoughts on politicians has always been that if you pit an honorable man versus a dishonorable one in an election without a good referee that the dishonorable one will win 99% of the time because of the advantages gained by "cheating". Thus the crud rises to the top in our system. Couple that with your thought that "even good men become crooks with too much power" and any monetary system devised is likely doomed to fail.

Personally I think that serving in the government should be made into a burden and people should be drafted into it. If they started stripping former politicians of their wealth after they served a term, it would make the parasites in Washington flee in all directions...
