Given the difficulty of creating content for the PS3 and its price, the obvious strategy for Microsoft is to cut its price.
Eventually, yes. But currently, Sony, on top of all the other problems, is supply constrained, which means that from competitive point of view, price is not a weapon. At the limited supply, Sony will sell out in either case.
In addition to supply constrains, Sony's other big bet - Blue Ray - may suffer because of poor Playstation sales. Apparenlty, X-Box HD-DVD accessories are selling briskly, addint to installed base.
Granted, this is from Tom's apparently, HP is selling, or going to be selling HD-DVD as a $100 option for it computers. tgdaily.com
I don't know anyone in thier right mind buying standalone players for $500 to $700, when you can get either XBox or Playstation thrown in for free. However, $200 add-on for an installed base of X-Box users, or $100 option for computers is a lot more digestable.
