Iraq is a result of map drawing by the perfiduos Albion, put together people who can't live together, on purpose, to make a mess out of it and have a ungovernable place. Like Nigeria, for instance.

So you believe that every ethnicity on this planet should have their own state and that would prevent all the fighting?

Iraq might be divided among religious lines, but with the exception of the Kurds, they are all Arabs. Which means they are ethnically united.

The only way to get that thing there governable is to use Saddam type of ruling. Wait and you will see after the US leaves.

I won't deny that an authoritarian government might supercede the existing one. However, I don't believe it will be totalitarian. There will likely still be elections and the US will (or should) gradually maintain an emphasis on increasing the democratic process.

But Saddam's regime was, and cannot be, the answer. Pinochet was a dictator, but he also was a someone who understood that totalitarianism was also not the answer. My perception is that he understood that democracy could not be permitted to become social or economic suicide and that order and free enterprise must be maintained to preserve the economic and poltical foundation of the country.

Of course, that doesn't excuse his abuses, but I don't see any real comparison between Saddam and Pinochet. Saddam was about advancing the parochial interests of the Al-Tikritis and affliated tribes over those of the people of Iraq. And he was never going to loosen the reins of this totalitarian rule to permit democratic reforms.
