>>we need to keep a little historical perspective cast over the debate<<

And therein lies the rub to the latest logic of Nokia simply wanting equal treatment as the competitors. Nokia had a choice early on in CDMA. They could have allied with QCOM and secured favored status throughout 2, 2.5 ,3 ,and 4G. But Nokia took the other route. QCOM did find some good customers though. If not for the Koreans and MOT, QCOM/CDMA would have been QCOM/CDOA.
So now that CDMA is the accepted technology for all 3G, Nokia expects QCOM (a company they did everything in their power to destroy), to give them equal favored status with the Koreans/Mot (loyal customers who saved and supported QCOM/CDMA from the beginning), in CDMA (a technology that Nokia did everything they could to discredit, ridicule, and squash from existence in the wireless market.)
QCOM can not grant Nokia's demands for it would violate FRAND conditions with its good customers.
