update from thailand:

I used to get 44 Baht to a dollar here. Today at the currency exchange I get 35.5. But that's not the whole story. Prices here continue to rise. I would guess that over the past 6 years the cost of stables including "street cart food" has risen at least 25%. In fact, infaltion is running out of control and no one seems to want to talk about it. Local flight between Bangkok and Khon Kaen used to be around $75, now $150. Hotel rooms more expensive too. Had a slice of blueberry cheesecake last night. used to be 100 baht, that price was crossed off, now 120 baht. Beer at a go go bar a few years ago was 90 baht, now it is 120 or 130 baht. Do a little research from people that either live here or visit here alot and you will hear the same story. My apartment building is only half full. Yet new construction is rampant. A recent coup, NPL's rising and yet the currency appreciates.... man, I wish I understood some of this modern economic theory better........ this country is setting up for a fall......
