First, yes, the clips were from 01, not 03. But saddam didn't develope these massive wmd programs between 01 and 03. But in 01 there position was that he had not reconstituted his wmd programs and was not a threat to his neighbors (let alone us). And there is no way he reconstituted his wmd program in 1.5 years. I don't think any country could build a wmd program that was sold to us for the reason for going to war in 2 years. And even if he did, then the war would have been sold to us in a different manner. And a mroe believable one if I may add.
One more thing on this point, powell and rice were more than clear that he DID NOT HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO THREATEN HIS NEIGHBORS. It had nothing to do with US being there. they said he had not reconstituted his wmd programs. Even if it did have anything to do with our presence in the area. We were present in that area in 01, 02, 03, 04 etc..
If those documents were real we would all know it. There is no MSM effort out there that is just for some reason hiding all of this information. Lets face it, plenty of the media is controled by politics, and plenty of it is controled by the right. There is no filter that could keep those from becomming a major story. If they were real, there would be a lot more support for the war. And if they were real we would see republicans wearing those things on the backs of there T shirts. MSM would have flooded the air waves with them years ago and you would not be able to poll americans and come up with these high percentages that don't believe the war in iraq has anything to do with the war on terror. It isn't that this has not been provided to the public, its that they didn't buy into it. And it was not pushed hard because they arn't real. I assure you most in this country wish they were real.
You should further define your experiences in iraq that led you to believe saddam maintained high-level contact with al quida. If your going to make a statement like that, throw the rest out onto the table.
I doubt ill be able to ask Abu Ayyub Al-Masri to many questions, but I have no doubt al quida in iraq is planning on attacking the white house.
Like I said in a recent post, I have no doubt saddam had retained portions of his wmd program after 98 and up to and past the day of the invasion in 03. Where is it now? who knows. The insurgency doesn't seem to have access to it. I also don't think he had much and little if any capability at that time to get anything going. You know, you can turn the history channel on and watch documentaries of the dismantling of his wmd programs after the first war. |
