The GOP likes to put spotlights on women and minorities, and give them visible jobs, but only if they're bought and paid for loyalist yesmen who will let the rich white men run things.

The GOP's whole way of winning elections recently has been to stoke the fires of racism and other redneck fears, then legitimize that as "American family values" and marry that to the elitist economic conservatives, many of whom want no rules so they can trip off taxpayers and consumers to their hearts content, and pollute as ravage nature as much as they want too. Then there are the war profiteers. That's their "big tent".

One huge mistake they've made from a poractical standpoint is making illegal immigration the new boogey man. The Minutemen types will never admit it but it's pure racism against Hispanics, and the Hispanic voters recognize this immediately. So as a result the Dems will now have a huge majority of Hispanics behind them. That could make all the difference in 2008 and beyond.
