The reason saddam did not reconstitute his wmd program and did not rebuild his military forces is more than likely just like you said, our presence in the region and the international coalition. That right there should tell you he did not have the WMD capability nor the conventional power to be a threat even to his neighbors. That is exactly what powell and rice both said. I realize that coalition didn't stop him from looting his own country, but the WMD he did not have.
I don't think either of us is saying the guy was a good neighbor or someone you would even want around. But sonsidering and nuke docs. Saddam had, is also in the hands of lybia, north korea, iran, pakistan, india, and probably yemen, saudia arabia, kuwait, sudan and who knows where else. How was invading iraq going to do anything about the spread.
Sometimes you have to live in the world the way it really is. And that information is already out there. A bigger threat is how that crap they poisoned that russian spy was delivered. That is something that could impact our country right now and its very hard to stop that. When you stack that up side by side with what is going on in Iraq that should tell you that is doing nothing to protect this country.
Plus, when the administration used real intel. they knew he was not a threat. The bill of good they sold us to get us into the war could not have been put together in a couple of years. The best saddam could have hoped for would put him out two decades.
If we would not have lost our credibility in Iraq with the world and over half of our own country, the door would be open to take care of iran right now.
This country would be a lot better off now if they did what they had to in Iraq ie.. take out sadr and a few others, and then the ones who step in to take up the slack. Take out the leadership that lied us into this mess and refocus on the real threats. I expect some fireworks in our country later next year.

Name the countries over there that don't funnel money into terroism and don't contact the nuts through the back door. Are you suggesting that this all centered around Saddam? He was on the outskirts at best. In that regard, invading his country did more harm to that situation because we are clearly broadcasting that this is all we got, everyone else is safe to do what you want. And that is encouraging them to do just that. |
