And Americans have continued that tradition. Probably because of its number of immigrants, we Americans constantly lift words and file their serial numbers off. When my wife was taught English in Germany, they taught her British English. When she moved here, she was constantly astounded by words she knew from other languages. Especially German words by way of Yiddish. The French don't know how to count. Beaucoux problems there.
