The beheading of Berg was due to Bushies policies in Iraq. When Bush challenged enemies to "bring it on!" and come to Iraq to fight us, there was a huge response. Months later, there was a huge terrorist campaign going on against our troops and western citizens. This included kidnappings and mutilations. That was when Berg was beheaded.

Berg by the way was a leftwing pacifist activist and a total innocent. He is someone the rightwing would ordinarily claim "deserved" it. Berg was greatly hassled by US military intelligence in Iraq. Plus that video of him being beheaded is very suspect. There are many people who believe the beheading was carried out by Abu Graib type US black operators, not Al Qaida. For use as a propaganda tool. For one thing Berg was wearing an orange jumpsuit the same as they used at Abu Graib. And his masked killer wore a gold Rolex and was very large. Al Qaida types do not wear jewelry. It's against their religion. And Zarqawi was not that big. So who knows who beheaded him?

In Vietnam, the CIA black ops Phoenix Program assassinated thousands. Sometimes by beheading. If you think barbarism is only on the other side, remember Abu Graib. My Lai and Haditha and think about which kinds of policy-makers encourage such behavior, most of which is counter-productive. Also terrorism on both sides has been going on since day one. It's nothing news. Only the scope of the 9-11 attack was new. And lucky for Al Qaida. So lucky in fact that someone must have let our guard completely down, on purpose maybe.

I like to read Dick Marcincko books, but in those books only the really bad guys get the extreme prejudice treatment. In reality it's never so black and white. Sometimes our far rightwing warriors do very bad things. But the blame for that falls upon those who are in command. Even dirty Dick Marcincko types basically follow orders.
