I am pleased to report that Sarah Palin was sworn in Monday as Alaska's new governor, in a ceremony MC'd by Libby Riddles (first woman to win the Iditarod). Frank went out in his typical graceless style.

Final Appointments
alaskanabroad.typepad.com

Frank Murkowski ended his term as governor as he started it – with nepotism.

When elected in 2002, Murkowski named his daughter Lisa to replace him in the U.S. Senate. Lisa turned out to be a pretty good Senator for Alaska. One can only hope Murkowski's latest family appointment will turn out as well.

On his final day in office, Murkowski named Leon Van Whye to the Alaska Railroad Corporation. Van Whye is Murkowski's son-in-law.
