Highlights of Multimedia week story (sorry upfront for typo's but in a hurry):

Execs at Packard Bell aren't expecting to sell large vol of DVD PC's in the 4th Q.

"What we are hearing at retail is DVD in the pC is not selling well". Part of the reason is the roll-out is slow on consumer elec. side. Packard Bell shiped a DVD pc in early Aug. but hasn't seen the kind of sell thru hoped for. It's selling, but not in large quanties" Pac Bell cancelled plans to intro. the Platinum 3100 PC with DVD this month. To be replaced by new machine in oct with pentium II.

The initial NEC DVD PCs are selling for $2,599 & $2,999 - avail. at CompUSA this week. Ready 9769 has 266 MHz pentium II and 7 GB hard drive. Ready 9759 has 233 MHz pentium with MMX and 4.3 GB hard drive. Both have CUBE inside.

Manufactures will have better shot at selling DVD systems if Intel Corp.'s Pentium II price cuts on Nov.1 are significant. (Not expected by analysts).
