I agree that traditions help support a national identification for the current 300 million Americans. However, insisting all politicians must take an oath on the Christian bible seems inconsistent with US freedom of religion. The emphasis should be on assuring all elected officials swear to uphold the US Constitution...anyone who refuses to take that oath does not qualify as a member of Congress.
