Many, many years ago, I was driving with a carload of other Marines, up near Bishop, CA. It was the middle of the night and the others were all asleep. Hilly country, with the road rising and dipping. As I came over the top of one of those hills and the headlights dropped down into the approaching dip, dozens of eyes stared at us. Cows! Some laying down on the pavement. I hit the skids and got stopped before hitting one of them. They barely moved. Of course now I had a carload of wide awake Marines. We had to get out of the car and shoo those damn things of the highway. I'm sure someone came along behind us and prolly hit one of the animals.
