I have also noticed, at least in the technology arena, that companies who focus on ONE area will perform much better than those who are diversified.

Compare IBM, HP etc. to MSFT, INTC, CSCO, AMAT. There is no comparison IMO. In technology it is diffcult to succeed in one area, let alone several. JMO, but I will not buy any technology company with a broad product line as a general rule. In the world outside of technology, breadth of product line definitely has its advantages i.e. shelf space etc. MO and G are much better companies than had they stayed in one area. PEP is the obvious exception with the restaurant business killing them.
This and another 73 cents will buy you a cup of coffee.
